Progressive Software Research NV is an Information Technology company that makes software products and provides services that enables people to make better use of their computers. This in turn ensures that they will have more meaningful lives by being able to attend to more important things like family and customer relationships.

A few years back, we sold a payroll system to a local hotel. We were replacing a system made by a large consulting firm. At the time the payroll master at this hotel was living in the offices at the hotel for 48  hours every fortnight most of this spent being up at odd times to attend to the computer system as soon as it was done. It happens that the system we were replacing took 8 hours per run to calculate all the  information in the payroll. There are usually three runs involved in every pay period. There was also a few hours to check the results and make the necessary corrections.

We installed our system and imported all the information from the old one using a lot of on site programming and that was the last 24 hours straight that the payroll master ever worked. This is because our system was doing the calculation for the same amount of employees on the same hardware in 45 minutes instead of 8 hours the previous system took. With this feat we not only demonstrated that our product was much better than that of the bigger firm but we also made sure that the payroll master was free to do important things in her life instead of waiting for the computer.

Wouldn’t it be nice to work with computers with out having any animousity towards those machines? Wouldn’t be nice to work with computers that simply did what you need with out geeting in your way? Would it be  nice to be able to go home and be with more important people instead of staying long hours at work trying to make the computers do what they were supposed to be doing all along?
